Lotrščak Tower Zagreb

Plan a short Upper Town visit for views and city orientation.

Lotrščak Tower is one of Zagreb’s most recognizable Upper Town landmarks and one of the simplest places to get a higher view over the Lower Town. It stands beside Strossmayer Promenade and the upper station of the Zagreb Funicular.

This page replaces the old “Lotrščak tour” concept with practical visitor information. You do not need a dedicated tour just for the tower; it works best as one stop on an Upper Town or Zagreb walking tour.

What is Lotrščak Tower?

Lotrščak is part of Zagreb’s old Gradec defensive system and has become one of the visual symbols of the Upper Town. Its location above the Lower Town makes it a useful orientation point even if you do not enter the tower.

Can you go inside Lotrščak Tower?

Visitor access is available, but opening arrangements can change. The Zagreb Tourist Board currently lists a visitor information centre at Lotrščak Tower.

As of September 2026, the Tourist Board lists the tower information point as open Tuesday–Friday 9:00–20:00 and Saturday–Sunday 11:00–20:00, with several holiday closures. Check current official information before making a special trip for interior access.

The Grič cannon

Lotrščak is famous for the Grič cannon tradition associated with noon in Zagreb. If hearing the cannon is important to your visit, verify the current operating status locally because temporary suspensions can occur.

Views from Lotrščak

The tower and surrounding promenade give you a useful perspective over the Lower Town. Even without entering, Strossmayer Promenade is worth including in an Upper Town walk.
